Extravagant Love

I am finding my way as I am learning to do battle with discontent by being thankful.  I hope you are too.

And yet, there’s more.  There’s more to the equation than simply being thankful.  There is giving.

Thankfulness to a Savior who gave everything for us is where it begins, but not where it ends.

If we have received that amazing gift of love from Him…how can we help but to give it away?

The one-time gift was certainly enough for us to spend the rest of our lives being thankful and giving to others out of that love….but He was so much more gracious to us than that.  He gives us Himself on a continual basis.

“I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19

He is there waiting to pour His love into our hearts each and every day.

And that is where giving begins….in the receiving.  The filling of our desperate hearts….needy hearts, broken and exhausted hearts.  And then, once we are filled to the brim and overflowing we can do nothing else but give it.

So many times we get overwhelmed with the word give.  What does it mean?  What does it look like?  There are so many needs.  How do I begin?

The answer is simple….just this:

Daily experience the extravagant love of the Father and give it away to the next person you meet.

This is quite simply the answer.  This is where giving begins…in the filling first and then the giving away.

This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.  This is love: not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.  Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.  No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4:9-12

Today, steal away for a few minutes and get filled up on His extravagant love.

Now, who are you going to give it to?

I’m doing the Beth Moore study “A heart like His” and she talked about picturing your heart as a vessel that needs to be poured out before God before he can fill it. That tied right in with this post. I love how God times things in our lives like that to bring ideas full circle.

Dear Joy~Thank you!! I have been reading in 1John for the last week~wonderful. This morning I had prayer time on the phone with my sister in-law and prayed this very thing~to be saturated with His love~to love self to then love others. My main problem runs into the verse that talks about perfect love casting out fear for fear has to do with punishment. I get so anxious about the struggles that it seems to squeeze out love. My prayer is for perfect love to cast out all fear so I can be fully saturated and then bless others. Thanks~Karla:)

Love that Karla! Yes, the fear. Ugh. I love that your prayer is for the perfect love to cast out all fear! Thanks for sharing!
