Need a Little Time?

I have heard from you.  Many of you want to be radical by getting in the Word and spending time in prayer.   You want to make this a summer of One Thing.  The question is: How do I find time? I know it can be hard to find time in your day to brush your teeth, let alone soak up His Word.  So, here is just one idea.  It may work for you, and it may not. It is just something that is working really well for us right now!

As soon as my friend, Beth, pinned this idea from Traci at Beneath My Heart, I knew I had to give it a try. She had this great idea of setting up stations for your kids to rotate through {separately} to give you a little breathing room.  Go here to read her awesome post!

We have nicknamed it, Rotation Station Day here, and the kids beg for it!

Here is how we set it up at our house:

Station 1: TV {kids pick a DVD to watch for 30 minutes}:

Station 2: Crafting or Playing Quietly {Legos, Drawing, Games, any crafts}:

Station 3: Music {piano for Hannah, guitar for Britton, Hudson listens to music and the twins dance around to their favorite VBS songs!}:

Station 4: Listen to a book on the iPod {here Britton is listening to The Call of the Wild}:

And this is what I do: an extended time in the Word and prayer.  Ahhhh. Really refreshing. {And, yes, I have to let other things go in order to preserve this time as a time of refreshment.}

We have done this twice a week for two weeks now.  I set the timer for 30 minutes and then spend a few minutes helping everyone get settled in their new station.

Also, in the afternoon, while the twins rest, the older kids also rotate through reading, computer time, and writing.

I hope this helps and encourages you to come up with an idea that works for you! What ideas or thoughts do you have to share?

If only my little boy was older! A 1 year old would not do well with this, however, he does take a 3 hour nap. I am considering letting housework etc. go by the wayside once a week so that I can spend his whole nap time in the word and in prayer. Will have to talk to my husband about it, but your posts are really encouraging!

I love the ideas. But do you have any suggestions for me? My situations is different.
I have a toddler who is very clingy now, and baby G #2 is on the way. I am having a hard time to find my quite time. It is very rarely for me to get up in the morning before her, coz she is an early raiser so we always get up at the same time. I wish I could get up earlier that 7.

Before, I had a quite time during her nap time, but not anymore. She doesn’t like taking naps now :(

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

BTW, I have read your blog for quite a while & enjoy how you share your life! Now that we have internet at home, I can check in daily! :-) Praying the LORD of the harvest opens the hearts of those in the area of Indonesia where you are.

Another idea I have started With my kids (2&4yrs) is daily “Bible time”. Each of us go in our own room and sit on our beds and read our Bibles. I let my 4 yr old look through any of his Bible books or stories. My 2 yr old sits in her crib and I give her a box of books. They really enjoy it and remind me to do it daily! :) -KRISTIN K

    Cont… from last comment-
And I go in my room and read my Bible. I can usually get the kids to do this for a good 30min :)

What a great idea! I just worry I wouldn’t be able to drag them away from the ‘movie station’ after half an hour :-)

I stumbled upon your site and LOVE it! that may seem strange to some since i am not married, don’t have kids, etc. However my life is unique. I can almost relate better to married women and their struggles than to the youth around me, even though i am only 21. I have a lot of responsibility. I stay at home, care for a chronically sick sibling, and try to keep the house in order.
I struggle to find time for Bible reading and refreshment also. Even though i don’t have kids, i like to save away ideas for some day when i do. :)

keep up the good work and be encouraged!

My kids are ages 5, 3 and 1 yr. I struggle to wake up extra early in the mornings for that quiet time, although I do believe it’s so beneficial to start the day off in the Word and prayer. Instead I use my children’s quiet time/nap time in the afternoons to pray and then in the evenings I spend time in the Word. I’m not sure my children are quite at the age where I could leave them at a station for 30 mins. without them needing my intervention. :) I have realized that my heart is so much more settled when I set aside time each afternoon to commune with my Creator than if I were to meal prep or be on the computer.
